R.I.P Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)

26 Jul

In her short career Winehouse gave us just a glimpse of what might have been, before she was undone by her own personal demons. But the songs she recorded, and the string of awards they brought her, served to underline what a talent she was.

We all saw this one coming. We all knew that eventually the drugs and rock and roll lifestyle she led were going to catch up on her. Yet still it came as a shock. Amy Winehouse’s death means she joins the ’27 club,’ a club which houses a significant number of troubled musicians who died at the age of 27.

I’ve seen quite of number of disparaging comments regarding her death ranging from ‘thank fucking god’ to ‘who cares,’ and whilst I was never her biggest fan I still think people should show a bit more respect. Whatever you thought of Amy and her actions, her death is a tragic loss to music, that ‘soulful voice was one of a kind. I send my deepest condolences to her family and friends.
